Correctional officers are line staffs who have greatly been called upon in the treatment of inmates especially those with serious mental disorders. These staffs have also contributed much in the reduction of the arbitrary actions through psychotherapy and counseling, medication, special housing and behavior programs. Nurturance and estimating glucose concentration in solution of these activities have led to the reduction of stress among the prison inmates.
Through their efforts, the officers have had enlightening moments on correctional thinking with the inmates being offered vocational and educational trainings in preparation for their life after they are ought of the prison gates. Most inmates are believed to have been disadvantaged in one way or the other in their growth and development period and as a result they engaged into a criminal life.
In pursuit of helping them out of this uncouth behavior, correctional officers have been very essential since the better education and vocational skills they offer have proven to be a turning point in the inmates’ life (Eykes, 2010). Others might have been abused while in their childhood. Psychological counseling to victims of this childhood abuse would help in the amelioration of their neurosis thus giving up their criminal ways.
Governments should therefore be obliged to put in place more budgetary allocation to correctional officers since their work has had beneficial consequences to the inmates. Otherwise, letting them escape without positively impacting their earlier criminal actions will result to more chaos and as a result, the living standards of every society member will deteriorate significantly (Eykes, 2010). Before imprisonment, inmates usually have little or no regard for others but after their sessions with the corrective staff there is an evidence of character transformation for the better
